Nathan is an experienced composer of contemporary and orchestrated soundtracks for the moving image. His work is diverse and has many influences ranging from Minimalism to contemporary popular music.
Being entirely self-taught, his approach to composition benefits from an open-mindedness and desire for experimentation that is without theoretical constraints. In addition, his work for television has ensured that all commissions comply realistically within the brief and deadline. Recent productions have required more of a sound design approach that has led him to redefine his role in order to incorporate a wider, more abstract sound palette. Nathan started composing for theatre in 1996 with the stage production of Terry Prattchet's Guards! Guards! UK National tour and Sympathy for the Devil, performed at The Royal Court Theatre, London. Television commissions followed in 1997 with compositions for Celador, Hawkshead, Endemol UK, Wildfire productions and BBC animation. All of which have been broadcast by the BBC, ITV1, CBBC and Discovery networks. His short film work has won awards at the Portobello Film Festival with others receiving much critical acclaim at both Raindance and The London Film Festival. Multimedia work includes compositions for Independent radio advertising, Channel branding, a landmark commission for the online safe surfing campaign for CBBC, and site specific sound design for artists.
